We review every application holistically, considering not just your academic achievements, but your unique experiences, aspirations, and the qualities that will make you a valuable member of our community.
Application Requirements
All applicants must submit the following materials. Additional requirements may apply for specific programs.
Completed Application
Submit your application through our enchanted online portal. The form adapts to your program of interest and will request relevant information about your background, including any prior magical training, heroic achievements, or encounters with mythical beings.
Official Transcripts
Provide official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. We accept documents from accredited universities across all known realms. Transcripts written in Ancient Runes or Elvish will be translated by our registrar at no additional cost.
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation from professional or academic references who can speak to your potential. Letters from dragons, deities, or interdimensional beings are acceptable but must include a verifiable contact method.
Statement of Purpose
A 500-word essay explaining your motivations, career aspirations, and how Hawthorn State University will help you achieve your quest for greatness. Bonus points for creative formatting, though submissions written in blood will be returned.
Standardized Tests (Optional)
GRE or GMAT scores are optional but can strengthen your application. We also accept scores from the Arcane Aptitude Assessment (AAA) and the Interdimensional Reasoning Test (IRT). Scores from trial by combat are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
International & Inter-Realm Students
Additional documentation may be required, including TOEFL/IELTS scores for non-native speakers, dimensional travel permits, and proof of realm citizenship. Our admissions team is experienced in processing applications from all 12 known realms.
The Application Process
Submit Your Application
Complete the online application and pay the $75 application fee (waived for veterans, guild members, and anyone who has saved a kingdom).
Document Review
Our admissions council reviews your materials holistically, considering academic achievement, leadership potential, and any prophecies that may be relevant.
Interview (Select Programs)
Some programs require an interview with faculty. This may be conducted in person, via crystal ball, or through approved scrying methods.
Decision & Enrollment
Receive your decision within 4-6 weeks. Accepted students will receive an enchanted acceptance scroll and instructions for enrollment and orientation.
Application Deadlines
We offer rolling admissions with priority deadlines. Apply early for the best chance of admission and financial aid consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions
What GPA do I need to be admitted?
We review applications holistically and do not have a strict GPA cutoff. However, most admitted students have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Exceptional achievements in slaying monsters, saving villages, or advancing magical research can offset a lower GPA.
Do I need prior magical experience?
It depends on your program. Some programs (like our PhD in Magical Creatures) require prior experience, while others (like Bachelor of Heroic Leadership) welcome students new to the field. Check your specific program requirements.
Can I transfer credits from another institution?
Yes! We accept transfer credits from accredited institutions across all realms. Credits from the Shadow Academy, Ethereal College, and most interdimensional universities are typically accepted. Our registrar will evaluate your transcripts during the admission process.
Is financial aid available?

Can I complete my degree entirely online?
Many of our programs offer flexible online options through our Arcane Distance Learning platform. Some programs require on-campus intensives for practical components (potion brewing, dragon handling, etc.). Check your program page for specific format details.
